Orange diesels, colorful freight cars, a main line and branch line hauler and the industrial icon Henry Ford. Say these together and the Detroit, Toledo and Ironton railroad comes to mind. A regional railroad before the term became vogue, the DT&I's slogan of "We Have the Connections" served the industrial Midwest proudly until it's merger with the Grand Trunk Western. The above photo, shared by Aaron Coyan, illustrates the quintessential DT&I of southern Ohio. This website, now entering it's eleventh year of existence, intends to be a source for rail fans, model railroaders, former DT&I employees and anyone interested in this unique railroad. |
